EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people process distressing or traumatic experiences that continue to feel emotionally “stuck”.
It is commonly used to support people who have experienced trauma, anxiety, panic, phobias, or difficult life events that still feel present rather than in the past.
EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess distressing memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming. This does not erase what has happened, but it can reduce the intensity of emotional responses linked to it.
Who EMDR may help
EMDR can be helpful if you are experiencing:
- the impact of past trauma or difficult experiences
- anxiety or panic linked to specific triggers
- a sense of being “stuck” despite understanding your experiences cognitively
- intrusive thoughts or memories
- emotional overwhelm that feels hard to shift
What to expect
EMDR is a structured therapy that begins with ensuring you feel safe and resourced before any processing work begins. We move at a pace that feels manageable, and you remain in control throughout. After the preparation and stabilisation phase, we would move to working directly with specific memories or experiences to process them.
My approach
I am a qualified EMDR practitioner and a member of EMDR Association UK. I trained with Richman EMDR Training which is approved by the EMDR Europe Association. I integrate EMDR within a wider trauma-informed psychotherapy approach, tailoring the work to your individual needs.
